A Look at Bones and Joint Alignment

X-Ray uses a small amount of ionizing radiation to produce images of structures inside the body. In orthopedic care, it is commonly used to assess bones, joint alignment, and certain injuries or changes.

Your clinician decides whether an X-Ray may help answer the question raised by your symptoms and examination. The images are considered alongside your history and other findings when discussing a care plan.

Imaging Within Your Practice

X-Ray and MRI are available within Hand & Ortho. Our Imaging department can help with appointment questions and confirm what paperwork, orders, or previous studies you should bring.

From Scheduling to Your Next Step

01 · Confirm the Recommended Exam

Check which imaging study your clinician has requested and ask what documents you should provide.

02 · Review Preparation

Follow the imaging team’s instructions and tell them if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

03 · Discuss Your Findings

Ask your treating clinician how the images relate to your evaluation and what follow-up is appropriate.

Questions About Your Next Step?

Contact our team for help with appointments and questions about your care.

How is an X-Ray different from MRI?

X-Rays are commonly used to look at bones and alignment. MRI can provide more detail about many soft-tissue structures. Your clinician recommends the exam appropriate to the question.

Should I bring previous images?

Ask the Imaging department whether previous images, reports, or an imaging order are needed for your appointment.
