A Closer Look at Joints and Soft Tissues

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images. In orthopedic care, it can help evaluate structures such as tendons, ligaments, cartilage, muscles, and bones.

Your clinician considers your symptoms, examination, and other findings when deciding whether MRI would be useful. Imaging is one part of the evaluation; your care team explains what the findings mean for your next steps.

Imaging Within Your Practice

MRI and X-Ray are available within Hand & Ortho. Keeping diagnostics connected with your orthopedic care makes it easier to identify the department to contact as you move through evaluation and treatment.

From Scheduling to Your Next Step

01 · Arrange Your Appointment

Contact the Imaging department about MRI scheduling and ask what order, paperwork, or previous imaging you should provide for your appointment.

02 · Discuss Preparation

Tell the imaging team about implants or devices, metal in your body, pregnancy, or concerns about enclosed spaces. Follow the instructions given for your particular exam.

03 · Plan Your Follow-Up

Ask your care team how your findings will be reviewed and what follow-up is appropriate. The next step depends on your evaluation and individual care plan.

Questions About Your MRI Appointment?

Connect with our Imaging department for help with the next step.

How is MRI different from an X-Ray?

MRI provides detailed views of many soft-tissue structures. X-Rays are commonly used to assess bones and alignment. Your clinician determines which type of imaging fits the question being investigated.

What should I tell the imaging team?

Discuss any implanted devices, prior procedures, or possible metal in your body before the appointment. Also mention claustrophobia or other concerns so the team can explain the preparation and options appropriate to your exam.

Who can help with scheduling questions?

Call our Imaging department at 561-241-9182 for X-Ray and MRI appointment questions. Exam requirements and preparation can vary, so confirm your instructions with the department.
